The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Rental Assistance Program offers rental assistance to persons with very low incomes who wish to live in homes in the private rental market but cannot afford market rental rates.
HCV participants pay 30% of their adjusted gross income for rent. The Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) subsidizes the balance of rent for the property owner.
The Housing Authority of York administers approximately 237 Vouchers within the Western part of York County.
With a Voucher, a family is able to select a home in the private rental market. If the family chooses to move, the assistance may be transferable.
All housing must be inspected and approved by the Housing Agency and meet Housing Quality Standards. For more information about the Housing Authority's Housing Choice Voucher Program, please call 803.684.6004.
